Student Life » HOSA
Pace High School is beginning its second year having a HOSA chapter. HOSA stands for Health Occupations Students of America. The organization was founded in 1976 and is dedicated to those students who want to make the health field their career choice. HOSA is a national organization that strives to enhance the student’s understanding and knowledge of health careers. The Pace High chapter’s mission is to expose students to: 1. The various career choices in health and human services. 2. Improve student’s medical related knowledge through local, regional, state, and national competitions. 3. The importance of community involvement through voluntary service at local hospitals, nursing homes, and other health related areas. Pace High’s HOSA chapter is open to any 9th – 12th grade student with a GPA of 2.5 and above. Members are expected to complete a minimum of 35 service hours per school year, participate in the local and regional competitions (held at PJC), and assist in fundraising for the organization. Mr. Stephen Knowlton is the chapter’s sponsor. He has an extensive background in medicine, hospital administration, medical ethics, and human anatomy & physiology. He can answer any and all questions you may have concerning HOSA or any health related field. Students may join any time during the year. The chapter is also looking for and encouraging local business involvement to help defray competition costs for the students. If you have an interest in health related careers and would be willing to assist the chapter in any way please contact Mr. Knowlton either by phone (995-3600 x 1116) or email (knowltons@mail.santarosa.k12.fl.us).
